What the foundation needs to do

Unlike an open flight, a bird room is an enclosed shelter used for feeding, roosting, breeding or winter accommodation. It behaves more like a specialist garden building, but its hygiene and ventilation requirements are animal-specific.

We coordinate the base with the room floor, attached aviary, washdown plan and service routes so there is a secure, dry transition between indoor and outdoor zones.

Options, assessed properly

Suitable foundation methods

The methods below are possibilities to assess—not interchangeable specifications. We match the foundation to the product, loads, support points, ground and access.

Concrete

Concrete foundation

A slab provides a rigid, cleanable floor and can incorporate specified damp protection and service ducts.

Often worth considering for: Permanent insulated bird rooms and frequently cleaned spaces

From £695 for 8' × 6' (48 ft² / 4.46 m²)

Ground screws

Ground screws and support frame

Screws and a designed insulated floor frame can raise a lightweight bird room above damp ground while keeping construction dry.

Often worth considering for: Timber shelters on slopes or beside an existing flight

Installed screws from £1,180 for 8' × 6' (48 ft² / 4.46 m²); frame quoted separately

Timber frame

Raised timber frame

A treated raised frame can suit a lightweight room if its underside is secured and moisture and predator risks are addressed.

Often worth considering for: Small private bird rooms with a supplier-approved floor

From £840 for 8' × 6' (48 ft² / 4.46 m²)

Dimensions, approvals and responsibilities

Ventilation and heating should be designed for the species; foundations can accommodate routes but do not determine the animal environment.

If the room connects to an aviary, provide both plans together so finished levels and predator barriers align.

JustBases quotes the agreed foundation and groundwork. Product installation, specialist connections, commissioning and third-party design remain outside our scope unless the written quotation expressly includes them.

"Craig and his team were very professional throughout the job. They worked tirelessly and extremely hard. The job involved digging up a thick reinforced concrete base. Then creating a whole new base with precision engineering in preparation to accept a new building on top. The result was an excellent job all round."

Bird Room Foundations FAQs

No. A bird room is enclosed and may be insulated, while an aviary is primarily a mesh flight. Their floor, damp and ventilation needs differ.
