Why Your Garden Room Needs a Precision Base

Garden rooms and offices are habitable spaces used year-round — the base must be perfect. Unlike a simple shed, a garden room has precision-manufactured doors, windows, and insulated panels that demand a foundation built to exact tolerances. Even a few millimetres out can cause doors to bind, windows to leak, and cladding to misalign.

Manufacturers specify exact base dimensions and tolerances, and failure to meet them can void your warranty. That's why every garden room base we install includes DPM (Damp Proof Membrane) for habitable rooms to prevent rising damp, and electrical conduit provision so your electrician can connect power, heating, and internet without breaking into the finished base.

Poured Concrete

Poured Concrete

The Precision Choice

Ideal for: Most garden rooms, garden offices, insulated buildings requiring manufacturer-spec foundations

A steel-reinforced concrete slab poured to your garden room manufacturer's exact specifications. We excavate to stable ground, lay a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, and pour high-grade C30 concrete levelled to within ±3mm. DPM (Damp Proof Membrane) is included for habitable rooms, and we lay electrical conduit during the pour so your electrician can connect power, heating, and internet without disrupting the base.

Advantages
  • Precision to manufacturer spec — protects warranty
  • DPM included for habitable rooms
  • Electrical conduit provision for power & internet
  • Steel reinforcement available for heavier structures
Considerations
  • Requires 2-3 days curing before building placement
  • Needs vehicle access for concrete delivery
  • Not ideal for tree root areas
From £595 (8' x 6')
Ground Screw Base

Ground Screw Base

The Rapid-Install Solution

Ideal for: Slopes, eco-sensitive sites, tight access, same-day installation near protected trees

Galvanised steel screws driven directly into the ground using specialist machinery, with a precision timber frame bolted on top. No excavation, no concrete, no curing time — your garden room can be placed the same day. Ground screws work brilliantly on sloping sites and cause zero damage to tree roots, making them the only option for working near TPO-protected trees.

Advantages
  • Rapid installation — building ready same day
  • Works on slopes without expensive excavation
  • Eco-friendly — fully reversible, no waste
  • Suitable for insulated garden buildings
Considerations
  • Higher cost than concrete for standard sites
  • Requires specialist installation equipment
  • Not suitable for very rocky ground
From £1,650 (8' x 6' with frame)
Raised Timber Frame

Raised Timber Frame

The Slope Specialist

Ideal for: Sloping gardens, difficult access, uneven ground where excavation is impractical

Pressure-treated timber bearers mounted on concrete or composite posts, creating a perfectly level platform without major excavation. We dig individual post holes rather than the full footprint — saving labour, skip costs, and garden disruption. Ideal for the many sloping gardens across Dorset and Hampshire where a flat concrete pour would require extensive groundwork.

Advantages
  • Ideal for sloping gardens — no major excavation
  • Materials carried in pieces — great for tight access
  • Improved ventilation under the building
  • Ready for immediate use — no curing time
Considerations
  • May need additional bracing for larger garden rooms
  • Timber requires ground-contact treatment (tanalised)
  • Posts need to reach stable ground
From £700 (8' x 6')

Garden Room Base FAQs

Yes — we work to the exact specifications provided by all major garden room and garden office suppliers. This includes precise dimensions, tolerances, DPM requirements, and any specific sub-base depths or reinforcement. Building to spec is critical: failure to meet manufacturer requirements can void your warranty and cause problems with doors, windows, and cladding alignment.
