Start with what you want to build
A sunny garden, paddock or business plot can provide space for solar where the roof is shaded, awkwardly shaped or already in use. The first decision is the panel layout: your solar installer considers sunlight, shading, orientation and access, then chooses a mounting system. Its foundation plan tells us where support is needed.
Panel dimensions alone do not establish screw positions. We need the frame supplier’s support layout and accepted foundation connection before setting out.

We discuss the site and suitable foundations, identify any supplier information needed and provide a clear written quotation.

Choose the foundation, not the complication
These are the methods worth assessing for this application. The structure, support plan and actual ground determine the right choice—not a one-size-fits-all specification.

Installed ground screws
Installed screws can support a compatible solar mounting frame with relatively small areas of ground disturbance. The specified screw, embedment, head connection and verification requirements must suit both the soil and the mounting system. We quote the installation against that agreed detail.
Worth considering for: Arrays with an approved screw-supported frame and suitable ground

Concrete
Designed concrete pads or a proprietary ballasted mounting system may be considered where penetration is restricted or screws are unsuitable. Ballast still needs checks for sliding, overturning and ground bearing. The solar designer selects the arrangement; an ordinary loose patio slab is not a substitute.
Worth considering for: Sites requiring a designed pad or non-penetrating support

Specialist foundations need a quotation matched to the structure, ground and installation scope. A generic garden-building price would not reliably represent this project. Call Craig with your idea and postcode to get started.

Ground-Mounted Solar Foundations installation
Planned around its use

Ground screws transfer the frame’s loads into the soil at individual support points. On a suitable site, this can reduce excavation and concrete deliveries and avoids a concrete curing period. The finished support must also resist wind trying to lift or push the panels, not just carry their weight.
JustBases offers the foundation installation part of the project. We welcome homeowners, landowners and solar companies looking for a ground-screw installer to work alongside their panel and electrical teams. Foundation product selection, the frame connection and any necessary testing are agreed before installation; you do not need all of that resolved before your first call.
We quote smaller residential, agricultural and commercial arrays across Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, East Somerset, southwest Berkshire and the Isle of Wight. Island quotations include the travel and ferry requirements for the individual job. For larger solar parks and contractor packages, see our separate solar-farm foundations page below.

Row spacing, grass cutting, access and cable routes belong in the layout from the beginning. Foundation positions should respect that plan.
On a slope, the mounting designer determines how the frame follows the ground and what adjustment is permitted. A level garden-building grid is not a solar specification.
When the design and ground are suitable
A screw-only foundation avoids pouring and curing concrete, reducing one source of weather-related delays. Unsafe access, flooding, frozen or unsuitable ground can still mean postponing installation.
Localised supports can reduce excavation and spoil compared with extensive concrete foundations. Clearance, pre-drilling, service trenches and machinery access may still disturb the site.
Using less concrete and moving less spoil can reduce material use and transport. Retaining vegetation may benefit habitats, but trees and wildlife still need protection. Steel manufacture and the full project design matter to any carbon comparison.
Before installation
The solar installer is responsible for the energy system layout, electrical work and connection arrangements. JustBases prices the agreed foundations. Tell us if you also need associated groundwork so the quotation can state exactly what is included.
Planning requirements depend on the complete solar proposal, its setting and the applicable rules. Some domestic installations can use permitted-development rights subject to conditions, while others need an application. Using removable ground screws does not create a planning exemption; confirm the route with your installer or local planning authority.
Before installation, the appointed designer or mounting supplier must accept the foundation type, support spacing and connections. If load tests are required, agree who commissions them, the test locations and the acceptance criteria. A screw that turns into the ground successfully has not by that fact alone demonstrated the required capacity.
JustBases quotes the agreed foundation and groundwork. Product installation, specialist connections, commissioning and third-party design remain outside our scope unless the written quotation expressly includes them.
