Friendly practical advice

Written foundation scope

Three easy steps

From first call to a finished foundation

Getting started is simple. We will guide you through the choices and explain any information needed before installation.

01

Call, message or send the form

Tell Craig about the solar farm, approximate size and postcode. You do not need a finished specification to start.

02

Talk through the options

We discuss the site and suitable foundations, identify any supplier information needed and provide a clear written quotation.

03

Install and hand over

Our team marks out and installs the agreed foundation, with the required checks before the next stage of your project.

Choose the foundation, not the complication

Foundation options for your solar farm

These are the methods worth assessing for this application. The structure, support plan and actual ground determine the right choice—not a one-size-fits-all specification.

Installed ground screws

Approved solar ground screws

Ground screws or specified screw-pile systems may form the foundation package where the solar designer approves them. JustBases assesses whether the proposed product and installation equipment are compatible before quoting. We do not claim to install every proprietary or high-capacity pile system.

Worth considering for: Approved screw-supported solar racking and clearly defined subcontract packages

Concrete

Alternative engineered foundations

Engineered concrete or ballasted supports can be alternatives in parts of a project where penetration is constrained. They require their own bearing and stability checks. We can discuss separately specified groundwork, but the solar-farm service here focuses on ground-screw installation.

Worth considering for: Designer-selected areas with penetration restrictions or a different structural detail

Clear prices, agreed scope

A price for your project

Specialist foundations need a quotation matched to the structure, ground and installation scope. A generic garden-building price would not reliably represent this project. Call Craig with your idea and postcode to get started.

No VAT is added to the guide prices shown.

What matters for your solar farm

JustBases offers ground-screw installation for suitable solar-farm projects, including subcontract packages for EPC contractors—the teams managing engineering, procurement and construction—and installation-management companies. We can discuss a defined block of the site, a staged package or the ground-screw installation scope for the full farm. Capacity, equipment compatibility and the programme are confirmed for each contract.

Based in Ringwood, our team travels nationwide for solar-farm ground-screw installation and can stay locally for the contract. This service covers England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with travel and accommodation included in the agreed project price. Start with the site location, likely scale and dates; an introductory conversation is welcome before the complete tender information is available.

Our offer concerns ground-screw installation, with product supply and any additional work stated in the quotation. It does not assume that a proposed racking system accepts our screws, or that a driven-pile design can be changed without approval. The appointed engineer and mounting supplier must confirm the foundation system and its interface before we commit to installation.

An approved foundation schedule

Agree the product, connection, installation depth and tolerances with the designer. Fixed-tilt and tracker systems have different interfaces; compatibility is project-specific.

Ground investigation and acceptance testing

The designer sets the required compression, uplift and lateral checks, representative test locations and acceptance criteria. Clarify who commissions testing before mobilisation.

Setting out and survey control

Confirm coordinates, datum, row references and finished support levels so the ground-screw package matches the approved racking layout.

A practical construction programme

Access tracks, deliveries, working areas, welfare and handover stages affect installation output. We agree resources and sequencing against the actual contract.

A route for obstructions and refusal

An unexpected obstruction or failed acceptance check needs a recorded hold point and designer instruction. Relocating a support or substituting a product is not a site improvisation.

Records agreed before work starts

Define the inspection and handover schedule, including foundation identification, position, installed depth, levels and any specified torque or test records. Requirements belong in the agreed package.

When the design and ground are suitable

Why consider ground screws?

Year-round flexibility

A screw-only foundation avoids pouring and curing concrete, reducing one source of weather-related delays. Unsafe access, flooding, frozen or unsuitable ground can still mean postponing installation.

Less digging and mess

Localised supports can reduce excavation and spoil compared with extensive concrete foundations. Clearance, pre-drilling, service trenches and machinery access may still disturb the site.

A lower-impact approach

Using less concrete and moving less spoil can reduce material use and transport. Retaining vegetation may benefit habitats, but trees and wildlife still need protection. Steel manufacture and the full project design matter to any carbon comparison.

Before installation

Dimensions, approvals and responsibilities

Solar parks may also use driven piles. These are a separate foundation method, not another name for ground screws, and a designer’s driven-pile specification cannot be replaced solely to suit the equipment available. Product capacity, corrosion allowance, expected design life and the mounting connection all need to match the approved system.

The developer and appointed project team should confirm the applicable planning or consent route and discharge relevant pre-construction conditions. Requirements vary across the UK. Ecology, archaeology, drainage, soil handling and land-restoration commitments can constrain working areas and installation methods even where the foundation itself is relatively small.

At tender stage, agree the scope split for design, testing, materials, setting out, enabling works, installation and inspection. Principal-contractor site rules, inductions, permits and task-specific risk assessments must be coordinated before mobilisation. Electrical work, panel installation, grid connection and commissioning remain with their appointed specialists.

Pricing follows the foundation schedule, ground evidence, installation method, access and programme. Travel, accommodation and any agreed testing or survey costs are identified in the commercial scope. A domestic shed-base rate or a price per megawatt would not describe this package reliably.

JustBases quotes the agreed foundation and groundwork. Product installation, specialist connections, commissioning and third-party design remain outside our scope unless the written quotation expressly includes them.
