What the foundation needs to do
The floor and perimeter are the aviary's first defence against rats, foxes and other animals that can dig beneath mesh. At the same time, an all-concrete floor must be planned around drainage, welfare and any planting zones.
We install slabs, perimeter foundations or paving to a complete aviary design, including the sheltered indoor section and panel fixing line.

Well-laid paving can provide a maintainable floor for smaller aviaries, combined with an approved predator barrier at the perimeter.

Ground screws
Ground screws and support frame
Screws can support a raised sheltered bird room or frame, but the open flight still needs a separate predator-proof ground detail.

Dimensions, approvals and responsibilities
Choose the aviary floor with avian welfare advice for the species. Hard surfaces aid cleaning but may not be appropriate across every part of a planted or specialist enclosure.
Current bird-keeper registration and disease-control rules may apply. The foundation should not create drainage or wild-bird contact problems for the finished aviary.
