Specialist base installation

Cart Shed Bases & Foundations

A cart shed combines a wind-exposed timber frame with a vehicle floor, so post loads and hardstanding should be designed together.

What the foundation needs to do

Traditional cart sheds and oak car barns use a small number of substantial posts to carry a broad roof. Their foundations must resist frame and wind loads while the bays remain level and durable under vehicles.

We install the approved post pads, strip or slab foundation and coordinate the visible hardstanding with the timber-frame supplier's setting-out drawing.

Options, assessed properly

Suitable foundation methods

The methods below are possibilities to assess—not interchangeable specifications. We match the foundation to the product, loads, support points, ground and access.

Concrete

Concrete foundation

Individual pads, strip footings and a vehicle slab can be built to the frame engineer's approved detail.

Often worth considering for: Permanent oak cart lodges and multi-bay structures

Ground screws

Ground screws and support frame

Engineered screws can support a compatible timber frame while a separate permeable vehicle surface is formed between bays.

Often worth considering for: Selected lightweight frames or sloping sites with supplier approval

Paving slabs

Paving-slab base

Vehicle-rated paving can form the finished hardstanding over its own sub-base, with structural post foundations below.

Often worth considering for: Cart sheds integrated into block-paved driveways

A written price for the approved detail

Specialist foundations are quoted from the actual product, support plan and site information. No VAT is added to the guide prices shown.

Dimensions, approvals and responsibilities

Obtain the frame supplier's foundation and post-shoe drawing before groundworks. Nominal bay widths do not provide enough information for bolt setting-out.

A permanent cart shed or car barn commonly needs planning consideration; drainage from a large roof and hardstanding should be included in that proposal.

JustBases quotes the agreed foundation and groundwork. Product installation, specialist connections, commissioning and third-party design remain outside our scope unless the written quotation expressly includes them.

Not always. Structural posts may use dedicated pads while the vehicle bays use paving or another approved hardstanding.
